If you are working in the web deployment field and want something other than Apache or IIS and don’t neccessarily want a Windows platform – take a look at Cherokee.
You can download from here
Their blurb says
Cherokee is a very fast, flexible and easy to configure Web Server. It supports the widespread technologies nowadays: FastCGI, SCGI, PHP, CGI, uWSGI, SSI, TLS and SSL encrypted connections, Virtual hosts, Authentication, on the fly encoding, Load Balancing, Apache compatible log files, Data Base Balancing, Reverse HTTP Proxy, Traffic Shaper, Video Streaming and much more.
Cherokee-Admin, a user friendly interface, provides a no-hassle configuration of the server. Completely integrated with the Cherokee-Market, it can automatically deploy web applications for an optimal performance. Check out the benchmarks and documentation to learn more.
The features that make Cherokee an interesting platform is the marketplace idea – where you can buy or download for free various configurations of software such as WordPress Zencart and many others. This pick and mix platform is quite different from say the Jumpbox approach which is one specific app per VM. I’mm planning to try a few of these apps on a VM to see how well the interact and install.
One thing though is the seeming dissing of a Windows port – but this may not be an issue for many since the free platforms may be the better place to implement Cherokee anyway – but worth knowing anyway.
