After much fiddling – I made the move to a new server and transferred my Blog in the process. The process was relatively straightforward and using Xampp for the platform made the whole thing feel quite packaged and smooth. I can highly recommend Xampp on windows as it is just point and click with some security changes to be made, at the end to protect your installation.
XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use – just download, extract and start. Click here. The export and reimport features of WordPress really worked well and the actual process was over in a few minutes. Re application of the theme and re-enablement of the plugins finished the job. The site feels much snappier and responsive – so it will be worth it for that alone.
Off to finish off the migration of some other sites from the old web server and then time to decommision Apache fom that machine.
All in all a good combination WordPress and Xampp
