Well not quite ! As part of a migration of virtual machines from one esxi 5 server to another I had a chance to compare the performance of the esx client – winscp and fastscp. The differences were astounding as the inbuilt download and the winscp downloads were quite pedestrian. The fastscp was almost a whopping great 10 times faster for the data I was interested in. In total it transferred almost a terabyte in a few hours – much quicker than I could have hoped.
Whilst Winscp has been a useful tool for me over the years (get it here) – fastscp is definitely in my vmware toolkit for future migrations and can be found here in two variants – bundled in the veaam backup free edition and also as an older standalone tool.
