Increasingly monitoring of the internal machines of clients and getting a handle on the day to day operations have become more important. As a longtime user of Spiceworks (the best kept secret for simple discovery and monitoring) I have been looking at the latest raft of changes and introductions that are planned. Specifically the “integration” of Spiceworks and Nagios – really more of an autodiscovery of monitored hosts through email notifications sent from Nagios.
Although still at the “working through things stage” Spiceworks have definitely upped their game as far as the functionality of the latest version goes – it just remains to be seen if it can fill the niche between a full blown Nagios distributed environment and a local easily installed monitor with the ability to scale to multi site.
