Not such a bumpy ride

Into the flash of lightning star-riders are hurled,
see them bumping and grinding bareback on the wheels of the world,
you can see the dawn a’coming or is that the flash of a spear,
ah, the day will come? the dawn will break: the daybreak’s here.

We’ve got the power and the glory,
we’re going to take it from here.

From Horslips – The Book of Invasions – “The Power and The Glory”

The bumping in question is more to do with physics – its a package that offers a “3D” view of your desktop – and its called Bumptop

The developers describe it as

BumpTop is a fresh and engaging new way to interact with your computer desktop. You can pile and toss documents like on a real desk. Break free from the rigid and mechanical style of standard point-and-click desktops. Interact by pushing, pulling and piling documents with elegant, self revealing gestures. BumpTop’s stunning interface makes clever use of 3D presentation and smooth physics-based animations for an engaging, vivid user experience.

The actual reality is a little more mundane but still pleasing to work with. Although the package appears to be heavily under development – this beta release appears to have enough functionality to see where they miight go with this. You have a skinnable room view – floor and walls – where you can place program icons and apps – like sticky notes and photos.

I t will be interesting to see what further additions may come Bumptops way. More info after the next beta release.
