Although I am not surprised that a larger company should acquire Trilead – the esx and hyperV backup solution – I was surprised to find that it was HP doing the acquiring.
The announcement
Trilead is now part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise
We are thrilled to announce that Trilead is now a part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and will be a part of HPE’s leading Information Management solutions. It’s been an exciting adventure for all of us at Trilead, thanks to our dedicated community of partners and customers. Current Trilead developers will continue to innovate and improve solutions alongside the HPE team. There is a lot more to come and we look forward to continued enhancements as part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
hopefully shows that the product will continue to develop and perhaps leverage the tape backup side of HP’s portfolio which no doubt has been in decline over the recent few years as the move to direct to disk backup has accelerated.
The product has been innovative and useful especially for smaller ESX implementations and bar the changes from a lower cost purchase and support to a annual subscription model – not too many surprises. Any support issues have been dealt with quickly and effectively. Here’s hoping that doesn’t change!!
The free edition (without scheduler) does still exist and is a great tool for testing backup and restore. Well worth a look here if you need a simple but functional solution for backups in your Esx environment. The free version supports up to two esx hosts.
