The heat is ….. on

Our friends at Openxtra have come up with a novel  solution for on the spot temperature logging with a laptop or in installations where its hard to justify a full blown networked temperature solution. The Xsensior provides a simple and cost effective way of adding usb based temperature monitoring to your arsenal of monitoring tools. Simply plug the monitor in after loading the software and within minutes you’ll be looking at graphs trending the temperature of the location.

As they say in their literature

I can see a number of uses for this but the first one is likely to be showing clients just how warm their running enviroment is especially in enclosed locations without air conditioning. I have also a few tests in mind for this device – remote monitoring from virtual hosts via digi’s usb network adapter and extending the distance from the host with usb cat 5 extenders. Given the recent cold snap I could also see this being a cheap early warning system for homes where drops in temperature especially during holidays could be monitored remotely !!
