When working with clients with multiple sites and trying to determine the normal operating parameters of the links between sites. Most router providers don’t present any information about the average latency or jitter or packet loss on the links that their devices carry data on. In the past I have used various solutions from complanies like Chevin who had a product called tevista used to monitor these kinds of situations. I will be researching the current state of play with current solution providers on the wan monitoring issues. In addition its likely that we will use the inbuilt port monitoring mechanism on the lan and wan sides of the links to pick up some indication of the performance and utilisation on the links.
