Sometimes when you read an email and you just know that you were not meant to see it ? I got one from Alfresco that read
MISSING: Flash drive with sensitive data, Reward Offered!
Dear Brendan,
It has been reported that a USB containing sensitive data has been lost at a recent user event, and we are offering a reward of $2.5 million.
Mmm – that was unfortunate but 2.5 million to get it back – doesn’t seem right. So of course it wasn’t. A retraction came a few hours later but I can’t help wondering is someone in Alfresco roasting over an open fire at the moment ? A joke gone wrong – a disgruntled employee – someone going postal ? Whatever it is it shows that mailling lists need protection from deliberate or accidental abuse – even in big companies.
