Last night saw the First Salesforce meetup in Belfast hosted by Deloitte in the Gasworks on the Ormeau Road. I was looking forward to an opportunity to speak to other developers who have had the opportunity to “get their hands dirty” with the platform – and who would be able to give a developers view of the subject – which I find helps when you are selecting a technology or approach to support a project.
The evening started with an introduction from each of the attendees – giving their background, experience and what they hoped to gain from the Meetup. The style was informal and it gave a good overview of the makeup of the groups – those who had been immersed in the subject and those – like me standing at the starting line. The freeform discussion continued through the consumption of pizza (I did look more closely at the toppings this time after the last IOS meetup faux pas) and ranged through the practical aspects of Salesforce – projects worked on – innovations and the direction of travel.
I was interested by the link with Oracle given my own background as a Oracle DBA and the evolution of the product including some of the newer developments mentioned – looking forward to some research and future demos to understand whats under the hood.
Overall I felt the Meetup attitude very positive and got a lot of answers to questions regarding the developer experience and the nature of the platform. I look forward to the future meetings and its hoped that it will be a monthly event going forward. It was great to have so many enthusiastic experienced Salesforce developers at the initial event as it takes knowledge to seed events like these. I also liked the swag TrailheadX tshirt (I found someone has referred to that as The Cloak Of Adventure)
So hats (swag Baseball cap actually) off to the organisers for getting the event off the ground and the other developers who attended and as someone already commented “About Time!” 🙂
