A last minute invite last night took me to an adhoc Meetup @ Instil entitled “Building Cross Platform Mobile Apps with IONIC”
The speaker was Sani Yusuf from the UK IONIC framework community. Sani is a frequent speaker and trainer and is passionate about the role of the Ionic Framework.. The event was arranged by Instil and was very well attended despite a relatively short notice to accommodate Sani’s presence in Belfast – my notice was about 60 minutes beforehand – due to being on the waiting list!
The talk was well balanced – giving background to Progressive Web Apps and Hybrid web apps and then specific details on the Ionic platform. He covered a lot of areas and went into just enough detail to talk for over two and half hours – answering questions as he went. Some demos and discussion were toward the end of the presentation. A lot of the questions were around the mechanics of certain parts of the delivery and caching mechanisms. Sani was still chatting with the attendees when I left – hopefully he got to leave at some point as the interest was high and questions were flowing.
I found the talk informative even though at this stage I have no particular experience on Ionic / Angular and was looking for a good introduction as well as some practical feedback – and with Sani – thats exactly what I got. I would thoroughly recommend pitching up if you get a chance to go to one of his talks !!
Many thanks to Instil for organising the Meetup at such short notice – the effort was rewarded with a great turnout
Perhaps its fate or something else but while I was thinking about the alternatives to Ionic such as Xamarin – this came up on my radar – https://www.codeproject.com/articles/1079101/xamarin-vs-ionic-a-mobile-cross-platform-shootout which makes some valid points
