In a recent encounter with IOS and how it handles HTML signatures I have to confess I wanted to hunt down the developer responsible and vent my annoyance. Instead we will take a look at this issue and the way to deal with it. First we need a nice shiny html signature. If you don’t have one from your friendly neighbourhood designer stroll on over to this site https://htmlsig.com/ and indulge your creative urges to get yourself one. Next send the link it generates to the device you are trying to create the signature on and open it in Safari.
Browse to the page and using the blue selection markers that appear when you select some of the rendered signature (do not try to copy the source code) – and select all of the signature. Then press and select copy.
The next step is to go into settings / mail on the ios device and scroll down to signature.
Paste in the signature and STOP !
This is because IOS has now mucked about with your signature which may cause it not to render correctly or worse behave in really weird overlaying of messages when replies are made using emails with signatures.
Instead do the IOS SHAKE – yes shake that thing – until it submits and offers to undo its changes. These are not the changes you made by pasting rather the ones it did after.Use the < Mail button to return to the settings and send yourself a test mail on the device.
Check the signature renders as required – then reply to yourself and put some text in.
Check the resulting email and see that you have two emails with one (the oldest) indented.
Your IOS HTML signature is ready to go
