Any one who knows who the patron Saint of Ireland knows you don’t normally get presents that day unless its your birthday. However this St Patricks Day brought a present that I could not have anticipated. About two hours before friends were due to join us for a belated birthday bash – one of them asked me if I knew about a concert that night involving my favourite band Horslips. After a quick search I found that the nights concert was not just a Horslips gig but a musical event with Horslips combining with the world renowned Ulster Orchestra to present excerpts from two of the bands concept albums “The Book Of Invasions” and “The Tain”.
Unable to organise a ticket at such late notice I was lucky to find that the concert was being broadcast live on Radio Ulster. I was rewarded with an audio experience with the albums mixed with a well thought out orchestration that still retains the albums innovation but that adds to them in a way that I didn’t think possible. I’m not sure if this is ever going to make it to album but it doesn’t they will have missed a great opportunity to deliver something old and new to the faithful Horslips audience.
So two musical treats in one week – must be my birthday – well close enough anyway. Thanks especially for the orchestral “I’ll be waiting”
PS – heres the link for listen again http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00z9s9h – this might only be valid for a day or two so get listening !!
