The Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) 2.0 provides a quick and easy way to analyze Microsoft Office programs for known configurations that cause problems. This new release updates the checks and suggestions that the tool can make when run to determine issues with your installation.
You can get it here and the installation is simply a matter of running the executable. Once installed are presented with a dashboard showing the elements installed on your machine. In my case it detected some elements of Office 2010 (such as project) as well as Office 2013 installed.
As part of a client incident I was most interested in the Outlook 2013 scan so by clicking on that I was able to select that alone for a scan. You can select more than one product.
The system reports the issues it finds – for example a mapped drive letter which was no longer valid was pointed to as an issue. Hopefully it will help give a sanity check when investigating issues with Office. I would certainly recommend running a baseline against a known working install to give some ideas when comparing to a broken or under-performing Office install.
