Setup issue with .Net Framework SP1 ?

When provisioning a SQL 2012 test environment for a client – the sql install stopped due to a missing prerequisite. This was duly downloaded and run. However the message “You must use the Role Management Tool to instal or configure Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1 SP1” is displayed.

The instructions are a bit misleading – what you actually need to do is

1. Login to the Windows 2008 Server.

2. Click on Start >> All Programs >> Administrative Tools >> Server Manager.

3. Under Server Manager >> Features, click on Add Features.

4. From the Add Features Wizard, select the Features you want to install on the server.

5. Check box the option of .NET Framework 3..5.1 Sp1  Features, click Next.

Once that install is completed – you can complete your install of SQL server 2012
