If you haven’t used the Dymo range of label printers – you have been missing out. Across a range of clients I have seen the ubiquitous workhorse providing label printing solutions in a variety of industries. The Turbo models of the Dymo range (Dymo 400 Turbo) are the most common models that I have used and they are robust to say the least. These printers have worked across Windows XP , 7, 8.1 and now under Windows 10.
However the problem that has been experienced recently is around the Dymo Connect application and remotely shared printers. In this scenario the printer has been shared and is accessible via \\machinename\sharedprintername from other machines on the network. You can connect to it and install as normal.
When the Dymo Connect software is installed and attempts to find the “networked” printers – it fails.
At this stage I think that it may be that the Dymo Connect application either doesn’t support the model of printer or as per the results of googling – has some other issues that prevent it working. A compatibility matrix is shown here
So in this case falling back to the previous application (Dymo Label Software 8.5.4) AFTER connecting the remote printer using the UNC path method mentioned above is the solution that worked.
When you start the application you need to do one more thing to select the remote printer. At the bottom of the main screen you see the currently selected with a green surround. At the bottom right hand corner you see an inverted triangle. Select this and choose the remote printer !!
This allows you to print to the remote Dymo printer !!
