A client reported a problem with wireless dhcp clients losing connections after a short period. After investigation it was found that all the affected devices were running Apple IOS – Ipads and Iphone 4 handsets. Researching the problem brought up a well documented experience of the issue by an American University here. What surprised me was the lack of many others experiencing the problem.
Similarly we found that the issue appeared to be related to a specific wireless network and a specific dhcp lease pool. After testing with non IOS devices and various configuration of dhcp options such as reservations and lease times. We noted that the devices functioned normally on static ip addresses and normal dhcp addresses. The problem seemed to manifest with reservations set against the devices to allocate pseudo static IP addresses.
The client opted for static addresses which immediately resolved the problem. It will be interesting to see if the problem is resolved.
